Filedene is a small village situated at the
foot of Trimtop Hill, where the National Trust was originally
founded, and
is
just
2 miles from the town of Stapleton. Just a short drive away
is
the town
of
Sevenoaks and the villages of Badger Hill, Stone, Tripham,
Braden and Cook Hill.
Also nearby (2 miles) is Chartwell, the home
of Winston Churchill and Hever Castle with its summer-time open
air theatre and concerts.
Holly Lodge is almost in the centre of the
village. Across the road is a shop and the
village
pond. The
village
is often bustling with activity during the day. In summer, tourists
from nearby Chartwell and Hever Castle call into the local antique
and gift shops and the pub garden. In the winter Christmas carols
are sung around the decorated tree at the pond, and local pubs
offer meals, fine beer and open fires.
The village has a lovely old church, a primary
school, cricket
ground, the Filedene pub, two village halls, a small grocery
shop, a small butchers/grocery shop, an antique shop, a gift
shop and
petrol
station.
Footpaths in the local countryside and on the
nearby hills offer wonderful opportunities to experience the
beauties of the Kent landscape. Other nearby villages and towns
have all types of shops, restaurants and pubs.
This area is also good for commuters. From
the nearest rail station, Stapleton Town, trains run to East
Croydon, London Victoria and London Bridge. Stapleton also has
another station serving the line from Springhillhill to Tonbridge.
Local people
also use Oxted,
Hurst Green and Sevenoaks for good train services.
For drivers, the M25
motorway is only a 15 minute drive away.
Buses run through Filedene to Stapleton,
Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, Bromley and other places.
Gatwick airport is approximately 12 miles
away - around 30 minutes drive. See the Links page for a list of local places.
